Word of mouth, with receipts

Referrals you can count.

Your best marketers are the customers you already made happy. Give them a link, reward the introductions, and watch word-of-mouth become a channel.

Why it matters

Know who sent whom — and thank them for it.

Trackable introductionsKnow exactly who sent whom — and thank them properly.
Rewards on autopilotThe referrer gets their perk the moment the referral converts.
Compounding by designEvery new happy customer is another potential referrer. It stacks.

The people who have never met you already know somebody who has — this gives that person something to hand over.

An introduction you set up once, not a favour you keep asking forYou name the introduction, say what the customer who makes it gets and what their friend gets, and switch it on. It stands there working while you do something else, instead of you asking the same people the same awkward thing every few weeks.
One link that remembers who sent itEach campaign carries its own link to hand over, ready to copy. Clicks against it, introductions that came good, and rewards issued are all counted on the campaign itself — so who sent whom is written down rather than half-remembered.
The thank-you takes care of itselfWhen an introduction converts, the reward the campaign promised is issued against it. The customer who made it gets what you said they would, and the friend gets the welcome you promised them, without you keeping a list of who is owed what.

Somebody was going to recommend you anyway. This is the version of it you can see.

Word of mouth is the oldest channel there is and the one most businesses cannot describe. Somebody says a good thing about you at a dinner, a friend turns up three weeks later, and nobody ever finds out that those two events were the same event. A referral campaign is simply that conversation with the join written down: your customer hands over a link instead of a name, and the arrival at the other end is attached to the person who caused it.

A campaign is a small, plain thing to set up. It has a name, a line explaining the offer in your own words, a reward for the customer making the introduction and a welcome for the friend arriving. Switch it on and it is live; leave it on and it keeps working. The alternative — asking your best customers, individually, whenever you remember to — costs you more and works less, and it wears out the people you like most.

The counting is the part you cannot do by hand. The campaign holds its own link, so clicks against it, introductions that converted and rewards issued are all attached to the campaign rather than to your memory of a busy month. When one comes good, the reward you promised is issued against it, which means the thank-you happens on time and you are never the person who forgot.

And it compounds, which is the whole reason to bother. Every friend who arrives and is looked after well is the next person in a position to make an introduction — and they arrive already half-persuaded, because the recommendation came from somebody they trust rather than from you.

What it actually does

  • A referral campaign with a reward for the referrer and a welcome for their friend
  • A tracked link per campaign, ready to copy and hand over
  • Clicks, conversions and rewards issued counted against the campaign itself

What that changes for you

  • The introduction you would never have heard about is written down
  • Your best customers stop being asked for favours and start being thanked
  • Word of mouth becomes something you can look at rather than hope for

You come away with an introduction you can trace back to the person who made it.

The Referrals screen inside the Customers workspace, tagged pulse and referrals above a heading reading customer referral campaigns, with a line under it about turning happy customers into your best marketers, rewarding the referrer and their friend, sharing tracked links and watching conversions roll in. Under a filled control for a new campaign, four counters run across the width — campaigns, link clicks, conversions and rewards issued — each carrying its own figure above its label. Below them a single campaign card headed Send a friend, marked active, opening with the question whether you know someone drowning in admin. Two panels sit side by side inside it: what the referrer gets, which is a stated sum off their next engagement, and what the friend gets, which is a free readiness audit call. Under those the campaign’s own share link, on the platform’s own web address and truncated to fit, with a copy control beside it; then the campaign’s own running counts of clicks, conversions and rewards, each figure over its word. The card closes with a row of controls — details, filled and selected, then new link, landing and edit — and one further control which paints a bin glyph in the dark frame and, in the light frame, renders as an outline with nothing inside it. On the right a column of doors: a new refer-a-friend campaign, loyalty stamp cards, one-off coupon offers, and the customer book. The Referrals screen inside the Customers workspace, tagged pulse and referrals above a heading reading customer referral campaigns, with a line under it about turning happy customers into your best marketers, rewarding the referrer and their friend, sharing tracked links and watching conversions roll in.
